Dubai to introduce silent radars to catch traffic violations

Attention, Dubai drivers. “Silent radars” will soon be installed by Dubai Police throughout the city’s residential districts.

What do “silent” radars entail? These specific radars won’t appear like the ones we’ve seen before, nor will they flash like the others.

They are not merely designed to log speeders who break the law. They can also pick up on other things like drivers who are using their phones while driving and not fastening their seatbelts.

Indeed, even if you’re simply travelling two minutes to the grocery store to pick up bread and eggs, you still need to obey all traffic laws.

Khaleej Times (KT) broke the story, stating that no specific dates for the installation of the silent radars have been disclosed. However, KT was informed during their discussion with Dubai Police that behavioural penalties will always be verified before being applied. What do “silent” radars entail? These specific radars won’t appear like the ones we’ve seen before, nor will they flash like the others.

Using state-of-the-art technology, the radars will be able to keep an eye on up to six major highway lanes. It will have the ability to recognise license plates and determine if they are hidden or obscured, even if another car is partially blocking their view.

The following are some possible fines.

  • Failing to buckle up: a Dhs 400 fine and four black points
  • Using a phone while operating a vehicle carries a Dhs800 fine and four black points.
  • A Dhs 500 fine for not waiting at a pedestrian crossing
  • Inability to keep a safe distance: Dhs400 penalty

In addition, the radars will be capable of picking up on other moving infractions including unlawful U-turns.

According to Dubai Police, these cutting-edge devices will be implemented to guarantee everyone’s safety on the roads. They pleaded with people to drive safely at all times, not just when they are aware of a “speed trap reported ahead.”
