When is the next public holiday in the UAE?

You’ve come to the correct spot if you’re wondering when the next public holiday is when you’re back at work following the extended Eid Al Fitr weekend. Here, we look forward to the public holidays and the long weekends that are coming up.

Even though the fantastic nine-day holiday has just ended, if you’re wondering when the next long weekend in the UAE is, we have all the information you need to know.

So, when is the next UAE public holiday?

At the close of the previous year, the UAE Cabinet, acting on behalf of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, released the complete schedule of public holidays for 2024.

Arafat Day and Eid Al Adha will be observed as a combined holiday in 2024. Arafat Day is the first, and it falls on Dhul Hijjah 9. Though it depends on seeing the moon closer to the time, Sunday, June 16 is the anticipated date.

The second and biggest of the two Islamic holidays is called Eid Al-Adha. It occurs between 10 and 12 Dhul Hijjah, which based on astrological calculations should translate into a public holiday from Monday, June 17 to Wednesday, June 19 (however this depends on the moon’s visibility). For those who have a Saturday and Sunday off, work will resume on Thursday, June 20, after a five-day holiday.

How many days will we have off?

Residents of the UAE will get a five-day public holiday if that is the case, running from Monday, June 17, to Wednesday, June 19. On Thursday, June 20, those who have a Saturday and Sunday off will report back to work. But keep in mind that lunar sightings are a prerequisite for date confirmation.

If you plan ahead, you can take Thursday, June 20, and Friday, June 21 off as holidays, making a total of nine days off. Our next long weekend may be five days long.

Because the Islamic calendar is based on lunar months, there must be a sighting of the moon during a very specific phase in order for these dates to be verified in the Gregorian calendar (the conventional January to December version). We will have to wait for UAE officials to confirm these dates closer to the time.
