Dubai rain: Schools, public and private sector workers urged to stay home on Wednesday

All non-state-run schools, nurseries, and universities have received notice from the KHDA, the organisation in charge of regulating private education in Dubai, requiring them to provide remote learning starting on Wednesday, April 17.

This is a follow-up to the notification from yesterday, when the identical directive was given for today.

The message posted on X says this:

On Wednesday, April 17, Dubai’s private schools, nurseries, and universities must continue to provide remote learning due to the current weather and worker safety concerns. Everyone, be careful.

It coincides with the Dubai government’s announcement that from tomorrow, all workers in the public sector will be permitted to work from home. “Private sector entities are urged to adopt remote working tomorrow,” it continued.

Due to the weather, the Government of #Dubai has extended remote working for all of its entities’ employees until Wednesday, April 17. Dubai’s private schools have also been told to carry on with remote learning starting tomorrow. Remote work is encouraged for private sector organisations.

These choices will have most likely been taken in light of the NCM’s earlier prediction that “another wave” of intense rain is expected to fall tonight, with additional rain predicted for Wednesday’s day.

How’s my driving?

This means that if you can, stay inside, avoid depending on delivery drivers, and if you must go outside in your car, drive according to the requirements for rainy weather conditions (more on that below). You should also monitor the RTA and ICT social media accounts for updates on road closures and detours.

Use these safety precautions to drive safely during wet weather. Use these traffic tips to prioritise road safety.
