New Year’s Day holiday announced for private sector in the UAE

Think of this as our Christmas present to you—we have good news to share.For New Year’s Day, all private sector workers in the UAE will have a public holiday, according to the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization.

“Monday, January 1, 2024 will be New Year’s Day paid holiday for all private sector employees in UAE,” the announcement states.

Employees who typically have the weekend off on Saturday and Sunday will be able to take advantage of a three-day weekend starting on Saturday, December 30, 2023, since January 1 falls on a Monday in 2024.

Workers are scheduled to go back to work on Tuesday, January 2, 2024. You can use this time off to unwind and rejuvenate before returning to work if you intend to spend New Year’s Eve by going out.

When is the next public holiday?

The following public holiday is Eid Al Fitr, which falls immediately after the Holy Month of Ramadan, since New Year’s Day is the first holiday of the year.

According to astronomical calculations, a UAE astronomer has predicted the dates of Ramadan and Eid Al Fitr in 2024. Ramadan is expected to begin on Monday, March 11, 2024, and Eid Al Fitr will run from Ramadan 29 to Shawwal 3 on the Islamic Calendar (Hijri), which is probable to translate to Monday, April 8, to Friday, April 12 in the calendar used by the Gregorian Church.

Those having a Saturday and Sunday weekend will get a nine-day break, with work starting on Monday, April 15, if the astronomical predictions come true. Eid al Fitr shall be observed as a seven-day holiday from Tuesday, April 8 to Friday, April 12, if the crescent moon cannot be seen and Ramadan is thirty days long.
